Learn more about your trip

Your tour:

  • The guide is left with the possibility of modifying the program at the margin depending on the constraints of the day.
  • The prices displayed on this page may vary depending on the Japanese ¥ exchange rate.
  • This circuit is unfortunately not accessible to people with reduced mobility
  • Pets are not allowed
  • Your travel documents will be given to you as follows: travel book by email 3 weeks before departure or in person during the information meeting, airport transfer tickets when you arrive at the airport by our airport assistant and the rest documents by your tour guide when you meet at 6 p.m. in your hotel on the first day
  • This program is subject to modifications due to imperatives such as weather conditions or any other case of force majeure. The order of visits can also be changed. Please note that due to the current situation, any information mentioned is subject to change or adaptation.

Your accommodation:

  • Tourist tax not included for some hotels.
  • Some hotels may ask you to pay a tourist tax on your arrival. It depends on the cities and even the hotels, as some do not include it in the cost of the reservation. It is generally ¥ 200 / night / person (around € 1.60) but can be a little higher in 4 * hotels. It must be paid in cash at the hotel reception. For traditional Japan Experience accommodation, it is included in the initial price of the tour.
  • Double room: The rooms for two people in Western hotels have by default 2 single beds (twin rooms) that can usually be put together.
  • Single room: People traveling alone and wishing to book a single room must pay a supplement when booking. This supplement can be waived, on request, in the event of sharing a twin room with another participant. The single room supplement is compulsory for all orders with an odd number of participants. Please note the size of the single room, between 15 and 20m2.
  • Traditional accommodation: in ryokans, the rooms have a bathroom (Western or Japanese) and private toilets. At the same time, access to the single-sex collective Japanese baths ("onsen") of the ryokan is free, subject to the schedules in force on the site. These baths are often not accessible to people with clearly visible tattoo (s).
  • In the Buddhist temple at KoyaSan and the Magome Inn, the rooms have a private sink and toilet. The single-sex collective Japanese baths ("onsen") then act as shared bathrooms, with showers and thermal baths. They are freely accessible, at the times in force on the site. These baths are often not accessible to people with clearly visible tattoo (s).
  • Names of the hotels: The names indicated on the site are given for information only. In the event of unavailability, an establishment of equivalent standing will be scheduled. The hotels, corresponding to local standards, are given for information only and are subject to change on site for hotels of a similar category.
  • Due to the very low number of equivalent 4 **** hotel temple in Koya san, there is a possibility, depending on availability, that you will be accommodated in a 2/3 *** temple of equivalent comfort.

Your transport:

  • Flights are not included in this tour. Do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to include flights in your order: Economy class flights with stopover or direct, air upgrade to eco-premium or business, departures from the province or abroad: we will be able to advise you.
  • The tour departure and end dates presented on this page relate to your stay in Japan. You will arrive in Japan via Tokyo (Narita or Haneda airports) and leave from Tokyo. Initially, you will have to leave Europe the day before and land at 2:30 p.m. at the most to be present at 6 p.m. in your hotel to meet your tour guide. On the other hand, the return is made the same day, taking into account the favorable time difference. Do not hesitate to consult us for any uncertainty or need for clarification on the choice of international flights.
  • Airport Transfers: The shared limousine bus shuttle leaves from the airport and stops in front of your hotel. Our airport assistant in Tokyo will drive you to the platform for the airport transfer. Then this transfer to the hotel is done without assistance. If you wish to be accompanied from the airport to the reception of your hotel, choose the "Accompanied airport transfer" option.
  • Japan Rail Pass: You do not need to be in possession of a Japan Rail Pass which covers your entire stay. Indeed, it is only profitable if it is used for long journeys between the different stages of the stay (in particular by shinkansen) which are very expensive. In big cities like Tokyo, only about ⅓ of public transport is covered by the Japan Rail Pass and getting around is relatively cheap (Tokyo metro tickets: € 2, daily Kyoto bus pass: € 5). Thus, providing you with a Japan Rail Pass lasting more than 7 days (14 or 21) would not be profitable but, on the contrary, would significantly increase the cost of your trip.
  • If a person participating in the tour is of Japanese nationality and resident in Japan, or foreign but with tax residence in Japan (student included), then they cannot benefit from the price displayed because unfortunately they are not eligible for the Japan Rail Pass. Do not hesitate to contact us to obtain the price of the circuit without Japan Rail Pass. This person will need to purchase the circuit train tickets directly in Japan. The Kansai Thru Pass is also subject to these same nationality / residence conditions. This is not the case with the Hakone Free pass. If this person is of Japanese nationality but is not resident in Japan, then he can benefit from the Japan Rail Pass under certain conditions (see https://www.vivrelejapon.com/japan-rail-pass/faq)

Spring (between 15 March and the end of May) and autumn (from mid-October to the end of November) are particularly popular, especially for the blossoming of the sakura cherry trees at the beginning of April and the blushing of the momiji maples at the end of November.

Winter is cold, with the exception of the southern islands (Okinawa and Kyushu). This period also has the advantage of having an absence of tourists. Travellers to Japan can visit the sites in peace, and the Zen gardens under the snow are all the more beautiful.

The summer is hot and humid. The highlands of the Japanese Alps or Northern Japan (Tohoku and Hokkaido) are havens of coolness.

Recommended dates for seeing the spring flowers:

- plum blossoms: mid-February to mid-March

- cherry blossoms (sakura): between 20 March and 15 April (dates vary from year to year)

- wisteria, iris, azaleas: mid-April to end of May

- hydrangeas: June

- lotus flowers: August

Recommended dates outside of spring :

- Autumn leaves: mid-November

- Observation of Zen gardens under the snow: mid-December to mid-February

Few Japanese speak English, even in the tourism sector. With the exception of hotel staff in the major tourist cities, few Japanese are fluent in English. However, this does not prevent them from doing everything to help tourists in need.

One or more guided activities are included in all Japan Experience tours. This will allow you to get a closer look at Japan's thousand-year-old culture. Feel free to add one or more optional guided days.

Guided tours are led by bilingual Japanese guides, for total immersion without effort!
