Ticket - Train - Nagoya - Kyoto

The most direct and efficient way to travel from Odawara to Nagoya is by Shinkansen, Japan's high-speed bullet train. Odawara Station is served by the Tokaido Shinkansen line. Travelers can take Hikari or Kodama trains. Please note that Nozomi trains do not stop at Odawara.

We advise Japan Rail Pass holders to use Hikari or Kodama trains, as the Nozomi is not covered by the pass. We recommend reserving seats, especially during peak travel periods. For oversized luggage (total dimensions > 160 cm or 63 inches), advance reservation for a dedicated space may be required on some trains, particularly on the Tokaido Shinkansen line.

The cost of a Shinkansen ticket between Odawara and Nagoya varies depending on the seat type and train. As an indication, a non-reserved seat typically costs between 9,000 and 9,500 JPY. For a reserved seat, prices range from 9,500 to 10,000 JPY. Green Car (first class) seats are more expensive.

These fares are subject to change. It is recommended to check current prices at the time of booking. For Japan Rail Pass holders, the cost of the journey is included, with the exception of Nozomi trains.

The duration of the Shinkansen journey between Odawara and Nagoya depends on the type of train you take:

- With a Hikari train, which makes fewer stops, the journey generally lasts between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours.
- With a Kodama train, which stops at all intermediate stations, the journey takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes.

You can board the Shinkansen at Odawara Station (小田原駅). It is a major station with clearly marked platforms for the Tokaido Shinkansen. We advise travelers to arrive at the station with sufficient time to locate the dedicated Shinkansen platforms and orient themselves. Signage in both Japanese and English is available to guide passengers to the departure platforms.
